5/19/12 Washington Triathlon Weekend Sprint

Last Day for Raffle Entries and ITU to take over WTC drug testing

So many quick things to tell you:

First, I did my first ever “speed work” in the pool. Dr. Pain set me up to do 10 x 50, alternating hard and easy on 15 seconds rest, 100 easy and then another 10 x 50, same thing. At the end of it, my shoulders feel like they are going to fall off but here are my numbers for the “fast” 50s:

Set #1
1:04 1:07 1:03 1:06 1:03
Set #2
1:05 1:07 1:07 1:07 1:08
They’re all at least 1 second long, as well because it took me a second to hit the pause button on my Swimsense
Next, you have until Midnight Hawaii time to get those last raffle-eligible donations in. For everyone who has or will before midnight tonight Hawaii time, I’ll email you this weekend to get which items you’d like your entries applied to.
Next, a little note about why Dr. Pain is deserving of her nickname. I had a 10 mile “easy” ride per the plan yesterday, and I was going to take it real easy because I couldn’t find any flats to go moderately easy on. First it was 80 degrees yesterday (which while not Dr. Pains fault, I don’t think… hmm..) mean even an easy ride on hills would be a sweaty ride. Secondly as I’m riding along, I got chased by 3 different scary looking, growling, barking dogs. I give Dr. Pain the info about the ride, and her response? “LOL. YAY DOGS! :D ”. She said he Doctorate was in Chemistry, but I’m pretty sure it was in Sadism.
Finally, today I was forwarded an article that interviewed the President of the ITU (International Triathlon Union) which said that the failure to test the men’s podium at Panama 70.3 was “absurd” and “suspicious” and further went on to state that: “Two weeks ago I met with (Ironman Corporation) in San Diego. We have made a lot of progress. Now they have to ask the WADA to change that situation, and we have to take charge of all the tests,” she said. ”Tests have to be done where they have to be done. And they have to be done by the person they have to be done by. It cannot be that a for-profit firm is responsible for testing its clients,” Casado said.
The article implied that the furor was over the fact that Lance Armstrong wasn’t tested, which is clearly what has raised the red flag for many folks, but most importantly it looks like the anti-doping processes at WTC will be taken out of the hands of the folks that are responsible for making money, and put them in the hands of the folks whose primary concerns are fair and clean sport.
